Testimonials

Sue Abrams and her team of social skill, reading, and writing experts have been invaluable for our son's progress through Elementary school. Diagnosed with Asperger's at age three, we had tried several social skills groups before finding a terrific fit. Social thinking, rather than simply social skills, gives him the understanding of how and why the tools he's learning work, which is critical to him making use of them and applying them in new situations. As he got older, the group makeup and focus have adjusted with him. We are happy and grateful that Sue and her group Be Social Kids is part of our team.

We have been extremely pleased with the progress our daughter has made so far with Sue. Just weeks after she started working with Sue, our daughter, who had been refusing fluids and fell behind on the growth chart, began drinking her fluids willingly with a straw. She is now drinking and eating well, and her weight is back within the normal range. We are so thankful, since we no longer need to intervene medically. Sue has very creative and effective ideas, and we look forward to seeing how our daughter progresses with her speech therapy as they continue to work together.

The Center for Communication and Learning was superb at helping our son with his stuttering. We saw a significant improvement during the course of his treatment. I would wholeheartedly recommend the center for any child with special needs.

The Center for Communication and Learning has been instrumental in the continued progress of my seven year old son. The staff is wonderful and nurturing; the group classes are run with the students in mind; tailored to their likes and interests which promotes healthier and exciting communication in a group of children who are there to learn this exact process. I am thrilled to have found this center and staff and my family, especially my son, will be forever grateful.

We chose to work with Sue because of her outstanding reputation in the community. After having seen her work with our daughter, we understand why her reputation precedes her. Our daughter started seeing Sue when she was about 4 years old. She saw Sue weekly for about a year to work on "k", "c", and "s" sounds. Once it got to a point that Sue thought our daughter needed to use what she learned in sentences more naturally, Sue suggested that we take a break for 6 months and then re-evaluate if we thought our daughter should continue with speech. We did end up bringing our daughter back to Sue after about 8 months of a break to continue working on "s" sounds and the improvement in very little time has been tremendous. Sue will not waste your time, your child's time, or your money on something that she does not think she can correct at that point in time of your child's development. Her candor, honesty, and way with children is invaluable. She makes speech therapy fun!

My son went from being resistant toward pretend play and now asks to play all the time.

This program has given my child the confidence to speak and share his ideas in a small group. It has also transferred to the school setting.

I have noticed a big change in A’s attitude in social situations. He is much more comfortable navigating social situations and just seems more comfortable in his own skin. He really looked forward to coming every week.

Our six-year-old continues to thrive in the social groups he has had with Samantha, Randi, and Sue, and he had a great one-on-one experience with Samantha which resulted in her gathering important information to help us get beneficial accommodations in place for him at school. He is excited each week to go, and we have seen improvements both at home and at school as a result. The CCL team has also given us useful vocabulary and approaches to better understand and support our son.

My daughter has received services from Susan Abrams for over a year and I could not be more pleased. My daughter was born with Down syndrome and with that, comes some challenges, in particular speech. While my daughter receives services through her IEP at school, contacting Sue to obtain additional private services was one of the best things I could have done. I've been very pleased with the services and my daughter enjoys seeing Robin (one of the speech therapists on Sue's team) every week. Robin provides weekly updates and activities on which to work between sessions. In addition, Sue's team is open to communicating with my daughter's home-school speech therapist which allows all parties involved with my daughter to be on the same page and offer suggestions on her development. Sue and her staff are very flexible and have adjusted appropriately to my daughter's needs. I have seen great improvement in my daughter's speech ability over the period of time she's been with Sue and her team.
